Week 0, post-execution

[Once he can see again, Chuuya is going to go looking for Ayabe. Where will he find him?]

[ Ayabe isn't hard to miss post-execution, wandering throughout the mansion with his attention on the corners of the room and around the floors, clearly looking for something. Spoiler: it's rats.

He particularly spends a long time in the kitchen cupboards making sure none of the containers have holes or anything that would attract the vermin back. ]

[Let the rat hunt begin.]

...you gonna be okay there?

[Because he knows how obsessed with cleanliness Ayabe is, and they just had rats everywhere.]

I'm fine.

[ So far, at least. He pulls his head out of the cupboard he'd been digging through, satisfied that none of the container lids are loose and none of the open packages are just rolled shut without a clip. ]

...How are you holding up?

Better, now that I can see.

[Yeah, he seems completely unbothered by the execution.]

Do you wanna like. Find some mouse traps or something, just to be doubly-sure?

[kazokun]

[ When you can't handle something, you just sort of don't think about it and have it crop up in nightmares instead, that's about where Ayabe is at the moment. ]

I don't know if that's something we can just find... But we could probably make one. Ishimoto-san could help...

[ Yeah. The cupboard doors get shut in favor of him turning towards the exit back upstairs to his room.

[Welp. Gonna follow him then.]

If we can find a bucket and a dowel, we can make one. We had to do that a couple of times, back home.

A dowel... would something like chopsticks work, or are there other sticks we can use?

[ They're in luck, though, because when Ayabe opens the door to his room and digs around the closet, he does in fact pull out a bucket. This is Ishimoto-san... Say hi. ]

[Welp. Hi bucket.]

I guess so, it's just gotta be long enough to go from side-to-side in the bucket. You set it up so that the 'pole' is set between two holes, and it can turn freely. Then you put some sticky food, like jelly, in the middle of the pole. The rats try to go out and eat it, the pole spins, and they fall in the bucket.

Chopsticks aren't going to be long enough, then, unless we tape them end to end. Let's give that a try first, and you can show me.

[ The only other stick that readily comes to mind are pool cues, and they're way too big for this sort of thing. Ayabe grabs the bucket and holds it tucked under his arm. ]

[Time to go get some chopsticks then!]

It can't hurt to try. But the rats might also be gone too, right? Since their queen is gone.

[kazokun]

[ They can make a detour at the study first to grab some tape and then pray nobody's stolen all the chopsticks from the kitchen drawers. ]

That'd be for the best. It's not like Nikki just... conjured them out of thin air, though. They were real. They bit Hakura, and Ken. [ One of them talked. ] So they must still be hanging around somewhere, right?

Maybe they ran away.

...actually it might not be a bad idea to find out where they went. If they did escape, maybe we can get out too.

[kazokun]

Oh. There's an idea. We might not need the bucket after all: we can just have a stakeout and see if we can attract one of the rats, then follow it.

[ It'll probably end up with them having to tear down the walls, but there are no objections here if they can do it without bringing the entire building down over their heads. ]

You know, Missile might be helpful here too. I bet he could follow a rat trail and at least lead us to where they are.

[Time to get the doggo to help? It might be good to try that before knocking down walls.]

[kazokun]

[ If they aren't finally let outside in half an hour, these walls are toast. But before that, dog... ]

We can ask him when we come across him. Rats should have been noticeable, but he didn't say anything about it all week.

They might not have been in here until Friday or something. But they had to go somewhere, right?

[kazokun]

If we haven't heard them, they probably live outside.

[ Watch him wander into the woods later and get eaten by rats. He's going to wish he also got a sword back to take with him out there. ]

Week 2, post-trial

[Chuuya is exhausted and cranky and hungry. Which is why he's going to go looking for Ayabe.]

Oiiii! Cook for me again, okay?

[kazokun]

[ Chuuya catches him in the middle of the hallway, probably headed upstairs. Ayabe's feeling... just exhausted, really. There's food provided in every trial but nobody ever eats, and he can't honestly say he feels like eating at all after everything that happened, even though the relief should have made things easier. ]

Sure.

[ He frowns, a little confused. ]

Do you mean right now?

[shortforever]

It doesn't have to be right now, no.

[He's hungry, but he can see how tired Ayabe is, and one of his links is making him be more observant about others.]

Actually, you look like you need to lay down or something. Maybe a nap in Fort Asshole will help.

[kazokun]

[ He breathes a laugh, mirthless, because Fort Asshole sounds about right, but he's not attributing all of that to Dazai ]

It's been so busy, I hadn't had the chance to sleep much, even yesterday when we could. Do you want anything? Because otherwise, your next chance isn't going to be until tomorrow at noon.

[ He is going to zzzz from now until then ]

Nah, it can wait. Especially if you'll make a big lunch.

[Of to room 11 it is, then!]

...thanks, by the way. For cooking for me and stuff. Nobody's ever done that before.

[kazokun]

You're welcome.

[ He looks surprised, but Ayabe follows after him, nodding along because a big lunch isn't a hassle when all the ingredients are right there for him to pick and choose from— it's a lot easier to cook a lot than for just one person, anyways. ]

It's not a big deal, so I can cook for you whenever. Beats you living off pickles or whatever you've been doing these past few week. Do you live on your own back home?

I can make instant ramen, and that's about it.

[He eats so unhealthy, that might be why he doesn't grow.]

And nah, I live with a bunch of other kids. But we're all kids, you know? None of us learned how to cook.

I mean, Yuan always tries to cook? But she's not so good at it either, and we usually let the little kids eat that stuff.
