I hope so. Holding back sucks. You have to be really careful about using exactly the right amount of strength and it gets dangerous if you over- or under-estimate someone. I'd rather not fight at all than do that every day.

Because he looks like he’s younger than me, and I know it’s hard to believe that he is, in fact, older.

So you got gods and stuff in your world too then? Like, actual people who are physically there, not stories and make-believe.

We do. Each of the seven nations has a god, or archon, to oversee it, though… they all take wildly different approaches. Sumeru, where I’m from, is the nation of wisdom and the home of the Akademiya, a place where the best and brightest study.

I’m guessing your world is much different?

Yeah. We have gods, but they're not really people on their own. Like, a 'god of thunder' would be literally an aspect of thunder, a mindless force of nature. There might be some that can think and communicate, but the ones I know of can't.

We do have similar entities... but most aren't considered gods. It's wild how different some of our worlds can be.

Is he... reasonable? I know you know I killed his sister, but if there was a way of bringing her... back... I'm just wondering if you think it's worth it. Both of them are demons and I don't know if they'd fuck with us more or... [ he sighs, not really sure where the fuck he's going with this. ] I don't know.

I mean, you're thinking of demons all wrong there. It's not about 'reasonable' or not, they don't think the same way we do. They're chaotic, they all have their own idea of what is 'right' or 'wrong'. And some of 'em do the wrong stuff on purpose because we're an entirely different species from them and they feel no emotional connection to us. It's like a kid stepping on snails to watch their shells pop.

For the bomb demon in particular, if you had a way to bring back his sister he might be less angry. But he just likes blowing shit up. You'd have to ask him after you bring back his sister.

[ he stops to think about that and, yeah, it all makes a lot of sense. he's never dealt with demons, but they are infinitely more chaotic than *most* people, and they do seem like they're only interested in fulfilling their personal desires. ]

I'm not going to talk to him on my own. I know how you summoned him, but I know he'll blow me up if I so much as look at him. It's part of the reason I wanted to talk to you.
